What goes into the perfect Amazon Blend?
- A combination of the vast array of Superfoods coming from the Amazon basin, in a blend which tastes great.
- Getting a recipe together that remains commercially savvy. Many of the Amazon Superfoods are relatively expensive to procure, so blending them in a manner so that each ingredient is used in a meaningful percentage, yet keeps cost at a viable level can be a delicate operation.
The following recipe is simply a guide to help those of you interested in creating your own “Complete Blend”.
20% Sacha Inchi Protein Powder – this star-shaped seeds comes from the Amazon rainforest and is an excellent source of protein and micronutrients. Comprising of some 60% complete protein it’s an excellent base if you wish to create a wholesome smoothie blend.
20% Raw Organic Cacao Powder – No 1 source of magnesium and antioxidants in food. Also an excellent source of iron and heart health promoting alkaloid chemicals theobromine, phenylethylamine and anandamine.
20% Raw Organic Mesquite Powder – It is a good source of protein (~17%), along with vitamins and minerals. As the sugar carbohydrate in mesquite is in a form which doesn’t require insulin, it has a very low glycemic index (GI).
20% Raw Organic Lucuma Powder – “Gold of the Incas” this divine fruit has featured in Peruvian foods throughout the ages. A good source of protein, along with vitamin C and B. Similar to mesquite, organic lucuma powder is low in calories and has a low GI.
10% Raw Organic Maca Powder – Grown high up in the Peruvian andes where only an extraordinary superfood could thrive. Excellent source of protein, essential fatty acids, vitamins, minerals and trace elements. Particularly renowned as an “adaptogen” which enhances the endocrine system.
5% Organic Acai or Maqui Powder – both these berries are found in the rain forests of the Amazon. These antioxidant-rich fruits are renowned for their immune-stimulating, energy-boosting qualities. Their ORAC values are among the very the highest of all fruits and vegetables (10 times more antioxidants than red grapes) making them an incredible defender against harmful free radicals. Finally, both are low in sugar and contain high amounts of iron, vitamin A, calcium and fiber.
5% – Camu Camu Powder – is native to the Amazon Rainforest has roughly 60 times more vitamin C per serving than an orange. It aids in gum health and other functions of the body. It also contains essential amino acids; Valine, Leucine, Serine, which are used by the body to aid muscle repair, nervous system and cognitive functions. It also has anti-fungal and anti-viral properties, and Ellagic Acid which has incredibly high antioxidant properties.
5% Organic Yacon Root powder – If the blend requires additional sweetness, yacon root is the South American version of a natural sweetner. The edible tubers contain a type of carbohydrate called fructooligosaccharides (FOSs), (fructans are very good prebiotics). It has a very high natural sweetness, but a low glycemic index and calorie value. Yacon also helps the body increase its vitamin and mineral absorption of all other foods, while itself being rich in antioxidants, potassium, calcium, and phosphorous.
