Finally… Hemp foods for Legal Sale in Australia!
On April 28th 2017, FSANZ (Food Standards Australia and New Zealand) finally gave approval for Hemp seed products to be legally sold as a food here in Australia & New Zealand.
With a 6 month period in effect whilst regulations are changed and can take effect, Hemp Foods will be legally be able to be sold from November 2017.
As a food, Hemp is in every sense of the word a “superfood”. It’s boasts not only high omega-3 fatty acid content, but offers it’s precious omega-3’s at a ratio to omega 6 & omega 9 which is unique in being perfect for human absorption.
Hemp Protein too is perfect for human consumption, containing all 9 essential amino acids and is the only plant to make protein from Edestin, a highly digestible and optimum form of protein.
Protein powders are of course big business in the health food market these days. Unfortunately the perception has often been that whey protein is superior to plant based proteins such as Pea protein, Rice protein or even Sacha Inchi protein. Hemp Protein however out performs whey protein on virtually all fronts.
We source our Hemp Protein from Hemp Foods Australia, who manufacture a lovely fluffy green hemp protein powder that has been gently processed, retaining all of it’s valuable nutrient. Most of the so-called “Hemp protein” that has been sold in the Australian market today is white in colour and is in fact hemp flour, not hemp protein.
So then, in the weeks ahead we look forward to working with new and existing clients to bring to market Superfoods using Hemp Protein Powder or Hemp Seeds!
